BowTie
Stainless steel tie for restraining bowed walls
BowTie is for connecting masonry walls to internal timber joists. BowTies are ideal for connecting gable ends and flanking walls to floor and ceiling joists provide lateral restraint. BowTie enables masonry to be tied to parallel or end-on joists.
BowTie HDs are used when tying to parallel joists. The BowTie HD design includes a heavy duty 12mm diameter threaded bar with a self-cutting end for easy installation. Installation involves drilling a clearance hole through the masonry, driving the BowTie HD through the first and subsequent joists using a simple setting tool fitted to an SDS-type hammer drill, and fixing the end of the tie into the wall with resin.
Standard helical ties are recommended when installing into joist ends. This system involves driving one end of a self-tapping, stainless steel, helical tie through the wall and into the end-on joist. Depending on the circumstances, the tie may be either dry fixed into the wall or bonded into it with EpoxyPlus resin.

Installation in Joist Sides
Example Application: Restraining a solid wall using BowTie HDs into joist side (Reference: ANZ-RB02)
-
Mark the position of the joist centre on the external wall and drill a clearance hole (typically 16mm) through the wall.
-
Insert the BowTie HD into the support tool fitted to an SDS rotary hammer drill (off hammer) and drive it through the first and subsequent joists, as specified.
-
Fit sleeve over the tie, inject EpoxyPlus resin to fill the hole, allow to gel and make good.
Installation in Joist Ends
-
Mark the position of the joist centre on the external wall and drill a clearance hole (typically 12mm) through the wall.
-
Insert the tie into the support tool fitted to an SDS rotary hammer drill (set to hammer) and drive it into the joist end to a depth of at least 75mm. Fit the nozzle of the resin applicator over the end of the exposed end of the tie, inject EpoxyPlus TE2 resin to fill the hole, allow to gel and make good.
Caution: Always locate, identify and isolate any electrical, water or gas services which may be present in the wall or the wall cavities and can pose a safety risk before drilling or cutting. Always take the necessary safety precautions. Use electrical safety gloves and wear appropriate footwear and eyewear. OHS Reference: Helifix Remedial Wall and Pinning Safe Installation Guide.
